Yesterday was the wedding of Kevin and Cheryl at beautiful, magnificent Slaley Hall in deepest Northumberland. After a morning of rain and wind, it seemed that we'd be seeing a lot of the inside of the Hall, but halfway through the ceremony, the sun burst through and stayed for the rest of the day. We had fun creating beautiful pictures, a few of which are below. Then, after the wonderful wedding breakfast and some very surprising speeches (censored!) the party continued into the night. I can vouch for the warm welcome and excellent service at Slaley Hall, and for the friendliness and hospitality of the Washbourne, Bryden and O'Brien families. Congratulations and thank you, Cheryl and Kevin, enjoy your tropical honeymoon!

What a lovely day for a walk around Durham's bridges and landmarks, combined with the wedding preshoot of Hannah and John. Durham was at its glorious best, and so were this lovely young couple. We visited the castle, Elvet, Framwellgate, Pennyferry, Kingsgate, Prebends and Milburngate bridges, all beautiful in their own way, each with their own character. My new favourite is Pennyferry-fab for urban chic photos with a fashion shoot feel. We're looking forward to the wedding, Hannah and John. Hope you like this small selection of your images!

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the wedding of Kevin and Kerry at beautiful St Andrew's Church Heddon, and the Gosforth Park Marriott. The day was sunny and clear, and the guests and wedding party were friendly and accommodating. The new Mr and Mrs Foster are such a lovely, loving young couple, that we were sure to produce some fantastic wedding images, and as you can see below, we certainly did! It's the most wonderful time of the year....the start of the wedding season. And what a lovely way to start-with the wedding of Emma and Chris at St Mary's RC Church Jarrow and the Vermont Hotel, Newcastle. Emma and Chris were married by their friend Fr Mark in a touching, funny and warm ceremony surrounded by their lovely families and friends. A fab London bus took the guests to the reception and added to the cosmoplitan, urban chic feel of the venue-I could almost feel I was in Venice and came over all European wedding photographer at one point! It was a refreshing change from country house hotels,(much as I like them!) and made for a wonderful day. Congratulations Emma and Chris-enjoy the Lakes (Arthur too!)

Friday at Matfen Hall threatened to be a very difficult day, weatherwise that is! However, a gentle dusting of snow gave an ethereal beauty to the whole proceedings for the wedding of Lindsay and Liam. The perfect winter wedding setting led to the perfect winter wedding: a beautiful bride, handsome groom and groomsmen, lovely families and thoughtful finishing touches made it a day to remember. South Shields never ceases to amaze me. Every year in September, it throws some days at us when the views out to sea could be anywhere in the world. Last Saturday was no exception, with fabulous azure skies and a calm blue sea- pity about the biting wind, but nevertheless Stacey and Scott had excellent weather for their wedding at South Shields Town Hall and the Little Haven. As Father Jeroen pointed out, had His Holiness strayed to Minsteracres for the wedding of Nicola and Matthew instead of to Glasgow, he might have thought he'd found the right place. There was a sea of tartan and heather, and dashing groomsmen and lovely lassies abounded. A wonderful day was had by all, with a champagne reception and boisterous cake-cutting, then the boutique delights of As You Like It in Jesmond, where to our surprise, we were caught up in the centre of a riotous Gay Gordons, for the first time in my wedding memory needing no calling or tuition from the ceilidh band!
Thanks for a great day Nicola and Matthew, good luck on your journey, and the best of luck and love for your new life in Australia.

Yesterday marked our first wedding at Whitworth Hall. We were very pleasantly surprised by the venue, the staff and the unprompted four-legged guests. We weren't surprised at how wonderful the day panned out to be, as we already knew how lovely a family Jai, Mark and Jacob are, but the sheer emotion of the day from all sides (including the photographer) caught us all unawares. From the moving ceremony, to the reading from Captain Corelli's Mandolin, beautifully read by Joe, to the absolutely gorgeous hidden secrets of Whitworth Hall- all in all, a magical day! Another minor miracle for the team at Jillian Dixon Photography-after the worst Thursday and Friday I can remember for some time, the weather at the weekend was again glorious,just in time for the wedding of Darren and Nicola at Headlam Hall. You may remember Nicola and Darren as the stars of a preshoot video around Easter- well this was the real thing! It was a day of nerves, tears, joy and spontaneous laughter, nifty first dance moves (!) -everything a wedding should be, in fact. We had the pleasure of meeting two of the nicest registrars in the North, and two of the nicest families you could wish to meet. We were so carried away creating beautiful images, that it's been really hard work to try to choose just under 30 for the blog. Thanks for a lovely day, Fish and Marshall families. Melissa has just reminded us all via facebook that it's her wedding in 16 days- we were cutting it fine for her preshoot on Tuesday then! While the rest of the North East was struggling under intermittent downpours, Matfen Hall created its own special microclimate for the wedding of Mark and Ruth. It was a day of elegance, quirkiness, tears, laughter, eclectic music choices and joy, and we were privileged to share in it. The daytime grandeur gave way to beautiful gentle evening sunshine and the guests happily played quoits, croquet, skittles and an unusual game with sticks which the Swedish contingent seemed to understand better than the rest of us! It's been a little bit crazy around here recently. Five weddings in two weeks and another two last weekend! We've been privileged to meet some wonderful people, who've made us very welcome and to feel a part of their most special day, Here are some of their images.

Jade and Steven 10th July- the splendour of Holy Trinity, Southwick, Hylton Castle and tons of fun at the Quality Hotel Boldon- credit to Ken for this lovely wedding day.

Diane and Paul- Little Haven Hotel 10th July. Some spectacular seaside scenery and a couple of crazy people paddling in the evening waves. Thanks to Ian and Milton for this one.

Kim and Andrew 24th July- St Helen's Church Low Fell, an incident with a Mam and a wheelie bin, and the Elephant on the Tyne- Debra and I had such a fun day with the Wooldridges.

Claire and Ian 25th July- who now feel like old friends, and made Debra and me very welcome at my family church St Mary and St Cuthbert, Chester le Street and the Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham.

Saturday was the wedding of Peter and Ashley at St John's Church, Birtley and wonderful Close House, Heddon-on-the-Wall. It dawned windy, wet and bitterly cold, which didn't bode well for the day's proceeedings, but after an exuberant if freezing start, the skies cleared and by evening we were basking in beautiful Northumberland sunshine-which was nice, as the Nelsons and Turnbulls were the friendliest, most welcoming bunch you could meet, and they deserved good weather. Saturday was the wedding day of Jane and Gary at beautiful Horton Grange in Northumberland. After a few days of decidedly "iffy" weather, Saturday was clear and dry. Today was a welcome day off, and despite it being a Bank Holiday Monday, and an awful start to the day (woken by torrential rain at 6.30am) the skies cleared further north, and the light in Alnmouth, Northumberland was perfect for some vibrant skies and some pastel seascapes. Glad I took my camera- I nearly left it behind to have a REAL day off!

I've been threatening my niece, Sherrol, that I'd do her portfolio shoot for some time now, and eventually we got it all together tonight thanks to Lena at Casblanca. Saturday posed us with a bit of a problem...we'd arranged a preshoot with Kimberley and Andrew, and the weather was glorious, then as the time approached, the sea fret rolled in and left us with misty, murky conditions. Undaunted, we spent a while at Tynemouth capturing some relaxed shots of the couple. There were lots of kids, dogs and jetskiers around, which added to the fun, but we managed to find a few little spaces to ourselves. I'd promised Kimberley blue skies, and didn't want to disappoint...so I created one of our very own. Ah the miracle of Photoshop!

Seaburn and Roker presented us with a fabulous day for the wedding of Cara and Dale yesterday. After a beautiful ceremony at St Benet's RC Church, we set off to capture some romantic moments along the seafront at Seaburn, one of my favourite romantic places! This was followed by a couple portrait session in one of the Sunderland Marriott's feature corner rooms, with a wonderful panoramic view of the coast. Later we photographed the evening reception and touching first dance- the last photograph isn't a slick dance move-it's the moment where Cara and Dale invited their cherubic son Daniel to join them, making the family complete! Busy busy again today, off with Ian, and today's stars Nicola and Darren for their wedding preshoot at Headlam Hall. I'd never visited Headlam Hall before and was stunned by its surroundings and decor. We spent an hour taking photos in the hall and grounds, and then Ian and I had to tear ourselves away, as we could have spent all day photographing details. The star of the day- Issy, Nicola and Darren's beautiful terrier- she stole the frames!

Easter Sunday (yes Sunday Jamie! haha) brought the first of this year's wedding preshoots. We love to photograph couples in the run up to their wedding, getting them (and us) used to their style of posing and photography, and capturing some special pre wedding couple shots. Today we worked with Tammy and Anthony in the lovely surroundings of Durham's Palace Green. Both posed beautifully, as did Dylan, their King Charles spaniel. Thanks for a cool hour, you three!

Just back from a trip to "The Dam" with the hubby. DFDS excelled themselves with a Commodore De Luxe upgrade (eventually) and some R and R followed. Some interesting photo opportunities presented themselves in Amsterdam...watch this space...but till then,and until my stomach settles after the North Sea presented a Force 5-7 on the return, here's one of my favourite views of South Shields Pier and Lighthouse.

Saturday in South Shields began in a cloudy,wet sort of way, but soon the sun burst through, which was just as well, as it was the wedding of Anne and Davey at St Peter and St Paul RC Church. We were pleased to be asked to attend as the couple's photographers and Anne and her Mam's make-up artist. Today I had the pleasure of assisting Jamie at the preshoot of Katie and Jamie. We met this lovely couple and their equally lovely family and best man Craig at the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick, to try out some shots and poses for their wedding in the famous Olympic Room of the hotel later in the year. We practised couple shots, group shots and the grand entrance,as well as some model poses for Katie, whose beautiful red hair looked stunning against a conveniently placed red door,and it's looking good for some fabulous shots on the big day. A couple of days ago we received a beautiful photo montage card, emblazoned with a banner which read Thank You. The photos were from Craig and Louise's wedding at Crab Manor, and the words inside touched our hearts and made us smile...

Time for us to meet up with Corinna and Michael again this week- for the wedding of this lovely, loving couple. Corinna and Michael were married at Elvet Methodist Church in a beautiful touching ceremony. The reception venue was Durham Castle in all its splendour, complete with a piper to welcome the couple and give a Scottish blessing. The bride was absolutely stunning, the dress a delight, and the groom, groomsmen and guests one of the handsomest bunches we've met. Yesterday was Leeanna and Ian's wedding at the Britannia Airport Hotel. I knew Ian and Leeanna were lovely to deal with, but hadn't realised what a fantastic fun-filled day we'd have with their happy, loving, extended family. It was a beautiful sunny day, a day of a hundred laughs and a thousand kisses. This evening, amid thunder, lightning and extremely wet conditions, Corinna and Michael were very patient (and very photogenic) models at their wedding preshoot in Wharton Park, Durham. Together we produced some lovely images, a selected few of which are displayed here, and as a special bonus, Michael made a new furry friend (photos later!)

It was back to my first love on Sunday 7th June at the Sage, Gateshead. The occasion was an afternoon concert featuring the world famous Fairey Brass Band and special guest Patrick Zuk, the soloist in Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No 2. These images are from the first half of the concert. In the second half, Fairey Band were joined by the massed bands of Easington Colliery RMT Band and Kirkbymoorside Brass Band. Why no images of this part of the concert?- it's a little difficult to hold a tenor horn and photograph the rest of the musicians at the same time...the tenor horn won-sorry Canon!

Saturday was another beautiful day, and was the day chosen for their wedding preshoot by Leeanna and Ian, at the Britannia Airport Hotel. We had fun trying out poses (especially the "dance pose" - ask Ian!) and enjoyed the attention of the enormous stag party who had taken up residence in the hotel that weekend! Leeanna also showed her model potential in Jillian Dixon Photography's trademark "blue thing"...
